International Trade Simulation Gina Caraiman University of Phoenix ECO 360 Kimberly Swaney March 5, 2007 International Trade Simulation Introduction This simulation will provide reasons for international trade and help me determine which countries to trade with, what products to import or export. Also, help with determining when to impose trade restrictions like: tariffs and quotas, and when to negotiate trade agreements. Overall, the story in this simulation has cast me in the role of the Trade Representative of Rodamia, where my office develops and coordinates international trade and investment policies, and leads negotiations with other countries on above mentioned subjects. I would levy and ad valorem anti-dumping tariff, (Ad Valorem Duty means value added; it refers to a duty, tariff, or tax that is a percentage of the price of the product.). Because 2. At what level would you set the tariff or quota? I would set the tariff at $40/unit, because even though the tariff raises the price of the product and can lead to loss in consumer surplus, some of this loss is compensated by a gain in the governments revenue from the tariff. This leads to a lower deadweight loss as compared to what happens with a quota. This tariff is 25% of the export price which is equal to the dumping margin. As the price of watches increases because of the tariff, imports from Suntize decline to 2.00 million units and domestic production increases to 6.00 million units. Scenario three: 1. Would you impose a tariff on imported corn? Yes I would impose a tariff on imported corn from Uthania and Alfazia because I need to protect my infant domestic industry which would give me time to attain productive efficiency. 2. The Civil Rights movement made a big change in American history. In the movie â€Å"Remember the Titans† we see how de-segregation effects high school football teams, coaches and society. The movie takes place at a time in history when integration of black and white teenagers start in schools. There is a cultural divide between the football players. The main characters are Herman Boone, Bill Yoast, Sheryl Yoast, Gerry Bertier, and Julius Campbell. In this project I will explain 4 examples of â€Å"friendship/self discipline by the main characters in the movie. Next I will explain what friendship and self-discipline mean to me. The definition of friendship is someone you can have fun with. Someone you can always depend on if you need help. Moreover, Boone uses different things with the players to get the players to get along. He makes the black players and whites players ride on the same bus, share rooms, and all the players run at the battle of Gettysburg. These things make the team come together and look at each other like a team and not color. This also make Boone and Yoast have respect for each other and become friends in the end. Second, Gerry Bertier is the white player that seems to be the leader of the white players. Julius Campbell is a black player that seems to be the leader of the black players. At first the two teenagers do not get along because of race, favoritism, and need to protect their culture. Coach Boone having the team players get on same bus, share rooms, and help each other on the run at the Gettysburg battle make the players become a better team a develop a friendship. Gerry and Campbell develop a respect for one another and it rubs off on the other teammates. Towards the end you can see that Gerry and Julius are now good friends. Gerry gets into a car accident and asks Julius to come visit him in the hospital. This is a big difference from the beginning of the movie when they hated each other just because their skin color is different. Greek Myth Essay The Greeks believed that the earth was formed before any of the gods appeared. The gods, as the Greeks knew them, all originated with Father Heaven, and Mother Earth. Father Heaven was known as Uranus, and Mother Earth, as Gaea. Uranus and Gaea raised many children. Amoung them were the Cyclopes, the Titans, and the Hecatoncheires, or the Hundred- Handed Ones. Uranus let the Titans roam free, but he imprisoned the Cyclopes and the Hundred- handed Ones beneath the earth. Finally, Gaea could not bear Uranuss unkindness to the Cyclopes and the Hundred-Handed Ones any longer. Gaea joined Cronos, one of the Titans; and together, they overcame Uranus, killed him, and threw his body into the sea. Aphrodite, goddess of love and beauty, later rose from the sea where Uranuss body had been thrown. Now Cronus became king of the universe. Cronos married his sister, Rhea, and they had six children. At the time of Cronoss marriage to Rhea, Gaea prophesied that one of his children would overthrow Cronos, as he had overthrown Uranus. To protect himself, Cronos swallowed each of his first five children Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades, and Poseidon immediatly after birth. After the birth of her sixth and last child, Rhea tricked Cronos into swallowing a rock and then hid the child Zeus on earth. Zeus grew up on earth and was brought back to Mount Olympus as a cupbearer to his unsuspecting father. Rhea and Zeus connived against Cronos by mixing a noxious drink for him. Thinking it was wine, Cronos drank the mixture and promptly regulated his five other children, fully grown. Then Zeus and his brothers waged a mighty battle against Cronos and the other Titans. Cronos and the Titans were defeated when Zeus ambushed them with the help of the Cyclopes and the Hundred-Headed Ones, and they panicked and retreated. Cronos and the Titans were imprisioned in the Earth where their fighting still causes earthquakes from time to time. Zeus and his brothers and sisters went to live on Mount Olympus, where they ruled over the earth.
